Suzanne McCormick
Northern Ireland 10000 metres Track Champion 2002 and Senior Cross Country Champion 2003.

Suzanne McCormick (10.02.79)  first caught the eye when she finished in 9th place in the 1995 Ulster Schools Intermediate race at Mallusk. Running in track suit bottoms she was left for dead over the first 800 metres but in the latter part of the race no one was running faster. She was immediately snapped up by Lagan Valley and it proved to be an excellent acquisition. Sadly of the over 70 girls who finished that race Suzanne is one of only a handful still in the sport.

Following her 'A' levels Suzanne 'disappeared' to Reading University where she achieved excellent success winning the London Colleges League and was awarded the Trophy as the University's leading Sportswoman.

Having passed her degree with Honours Suzanne returned to Northern Ireland where she was accepted by Queens University for a PHd. This was a good move by Queens as they got not only an outstanding student but a top class athlete who has represented them in winning Irish Universities titles and in making the Irish Universities team for the World Student Games in Spain last winter. She has subsequently been appointed Captain of the Ladies Athletic Team at Queens.

Suzane has progressed her athletics career in the last year and is now an automatic choice for any Northern Ireland team. On Saturday 7th December she will earn her second International vest of the winter in the Reebox Challenge in Edinburg. On the track she is the reigning Northern Ireland 10000 metres champion and her reputation on the roads is such that she competed in the elite women's race in the Great North Run last year. This year she had to miss the event as her studies took her to China at the same time.
